The deputy, whose name was not released, suffered a severed artery which, though repaired during the surgery, may require additional surgeries, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. said.
The confrontation happened around 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20 in Putnam Valley on Peekskill Hollow Road.
Upon investigation of a disturbance at the residence, a male subject confronted deputies with a knife, stabbing the one deputy, Langley said.
The suspect was taken into custody.
"The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the support from the community, NY State Police, Town of Carmel Police, Westchester County Police and the City of Peekskill Police," said Langley. "We would also like to thank the Hudson Valley Hospital Center for all their support during this time. And thank you to everyone who has sent good wishes his way. It worked!"
